Smile design dentistry combines modern cosmetic dentistry techniques to provide you with the smile you have always desired. A combination of beautiful precision made veneers and restorations may be used to give you the smile you have always wanted and it can be achieved in a matter of weeks.
A variety of techniques are available which can be tailored to an individual’s requirements and expectations. They may be used so as to refresh the smile giving it a brighter and healthier look and depending upon your wishes the results may be very subtle or more dramatic.
In some cases it may be desirable to alter just one or two teeth, in others more extensive changes may be desired. Not infrequently changes to the side teeth can be made to give you a broader more classically beautiful smile, a so called ‘smile lift’. The choice is yours!
The Smile Design Process
The process starts with a consultation. Here you will have plenty of time to discuss any likes and dislikes you may have as well time to talk about your expectations for your future smile.
A detailed examination of your mouth is performed; photographs and x-rays are taken as are impressions of your teeth. From the impressions, models of your teeth will be fabricated at our laboratory. These in turn will allow your occlusion (your bite and the way the teeth fit together) to be assessed.
Having gathered all the necessary information, you will be provided with a detailed treatment plan outlining all treatment options and related costs. You will then be able to have a second free consultation so that you are able to discuss any questions which have been raised by the treatment proposal.
If you decide to proceed with the treatment proposal, the next stage is to copy the models of your teeth and modify them to make a diagnostic wax preview (a wax ‘mock-up’ of the planned final outcome). This enables both you and the dentist to confirm that the planned outcome is what you desire. The wax preview can also be used to make temporary restorations which are a copy of the proposed final outcome; this enables the patient to live with a ‘trial smile’ before fabricating the final restorations (teeth).
Assuming you are happy with the wax preview, the teeth are adjusted, impressions taken and temporary restorations provided.
The last stage of the process is to carefully remove the temporary restorations and replace them with beautiful new definitive porcelain restorations to give you the smile that you have always wanted.
